Job Wouters, known as Letman, hand lettering:

I went to the Ed Ruscha exhibition in the Hayward Gallery on Monday. It was good to see these paintings, which are often reproduced, first hand. The word pieces, such as ‘OOF’ are interesting to see in their banal glory, but pieces I found the most arresting were the silhouette paintings, these paintings are atmospheric and mysterious and need to be seen full size to appreciate the full fuzzy effect.
I spotted this as the side of the road in Portugal this summer. At the time I thought it would be relevant to this study because I’m interested in using the processes of drawing in graphic design, hand made typography and graphic design in the built environment. This is about the most simple possible way of doing that, picking up some pots of paint and getting on with it, and it’s a great result.
