I visited the joint exhibition of Nairy Baghramian and Phyllida Barlow at the Sperpentine. The image on the invitation is not from the show, (although there was some similar ramp like objects) but I like it a lot. Particularly in that sickly green. I wonder if it is a reference to the infamous slant step.

Nairy Baghramian and Phyllida Barlow
Friday, May 14th, 2010Sculpture Collapse
Thursday, April 1st, 2010Today I visited the From Floor to Sky Exhibition at the P3 Gallery, Westminster Univeristy. I also visited the Theo Van Doesburg exhibition at Tate Modern, and took in the Ashile Gorky retrospective while I was there. Earlier in the week I visited Tate Britain and saw the Chris Ofili exhibition, plus some of the other work in the main hall such as The Pleasure Principal by Sarah Lucas, and the Art Now room which featured Andy Holden’s Pyramid Piece, and Return of Pyramid Piece.
All of this may be too many exhibitions, too many artists, and too many conflicting and contradictory ideas to be fully and realistically comprehended. All of this complicated by the fact that spent Friday and Monday in Camden Arts Centre assisting Anna Maria Maiolino install and make her exhibition, focusing on rolling clay for the table and sticking lumps of clay to the wall.
To make things even simpler I have been reading The Uncertainty of Objects and Ideas, Recent Sculpture while enjoying the novelty of riding around London on the Tube instead of my bike.
Landy Fill
Saturday, March 20th, 2010Right next to Camberwell College, Peckham Road, is the South London Gallery, current exhibition; Michael Landy’s Art Bin. It was great timing for me, as my research paper covers some of Landy’s work, the Breakdown Inventory (2001). So, I went in and said hello to the man.
Less and More, and More
Sunday, January 31st, 2010While waiting for my prints from Service Point, I decided to have a look at Less and More, Dieter Rams at the Design Museum. Wonderfully restrained work, and a great exhibition design by Bibliothèque. See their post about it on the Eye Blog.
The Synesthetic Experiment
Monday, December 21st, 2009The official poster for the second MA Graphics show.

Exhibition Poster Variations
Monday, December 21st, 2009There have been various versions of the poster for the next Camberwell MA Graphics exhibiton, I have uploaded them here to show how the have developed, this one is my version of a previous design by another student (show below). The others thought I was joking with the stretched rainbow type. It is not tasteful ‘good design’ I know, but then, it is a poster to attract students, and I thought this was a good opportunity to do something eye catching and trashy. Common sense prevailed.
Full Colour Type
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009I went to see the ‘Typography Workshop’ (Alan Kitching and Celia Stothard) at the Advanced Graphics gallery. It’s an inspiring show, and had me planning my next visit to the Letterpress as soon as I saw the first print. There is some information and lots of pictures on the Eye Blog.

Relates to Brecht
Friday, November 20th, 2009I made this pair of plaques for the show. The theme of ‘Inner/Outside’ reminded me of ‘Two Exercises’ by George Brecht, 1961. The original text is this: Consider an object. Call what is not the object “other”. Add to the object, from the “other”, another object, to form a new object and a new “other”. Repeat until there is no more “other”. Take a part from the object and add it to the “other”, to form a new object and a new “other”. Repeat until there is no more object.
Inner Outside Show
Friday, November 20th, 2009The first show for MA Graphics opened in Wilson Road on Tuesday. Overall it was a success, I think we all agree. However it was a bit disorganised, and not very many people came, but then with the posters up a couple of days before and all of them getting stolen from the notice boards it wasn’t surprising. Here are some photographs, thanks to Mei Li and Darrell Chandler for providing them. I showed ‘Relates to Brecht’, and the rubber ‘Mackdoor’ sculpture.
Inner Outside Preparations
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009The first MA Graphics exhibition opens later today. It was my idea to do a time consuming and difficult to produce screen printed poster. Joana Monteiro did the typography and Marcus and Nina did the hard work. They look nice on the wall and at least one has already been stolen from the notice board which is hopefully a good sign.
