Show Films All Day Long

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Visual Spaces Workshop Series: Day 3. ‘We’re taking over the lecture theatre for 10 hours of short films, long films, student animations, and abnormal cinema. Open for contributions and recommendations.’

After two days of vigorous activity in the first two workshops it was good to look forward to a whole day in the sofa watching the big screen. For the film day Joana and I converted the lecture theatre into something resembling a living room complete with lamps, coffee tables, a rug and a silver gnome. We started off proceedings with Jubilee, 1978 directed by Derek Jarman.

Visual Spaces Workshop Series: Day 2. ‘Swap and share knowledge and skills at an all day exchange of ideas.’

Visual Spaces Workshop Series

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Three days of workshops organised by myself and Joana Montiero. While arranging the Visual Voices Lecture Series, we decided to continue and arrange some other things at college, hoping to encourage communication between different levels of study: BA and MA.

Visual Voices Lecture Series

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Joana Montiero, Nina Kriedie and myself organised a series of lectures at Camberwell. The idea came about as we were dissatisfied with the existing programme at the college, which seemed to consist of mostly tutors and alumni, and focused on fine art practitioners. We did not use any kind of democratic process to decide who we would approach, each of us who took an active interest in arranging lectures was able to book who they wanted, we were just lucky that we managed to stretch the limited budjet with a bit of last minute help from BA Graphics. I was very pleased to arrange for Daniel van der Velden from Metahaven to lecture, while Nina booked Jonathan Barnbrook, and Joana chose Vaughan Oliver and Brave New Alps.

Cross Print

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

David Cross has given the class a couple of seminars on design for print. He brought in some interesting examples, such as this book, in which all the photographs were glued in, and a very unusual fold binding was used:

Page Turners

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I seem to be developing a bad habit: reading books half way through and then starting on the next one.

Landy Fill

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Right next to Camberwell College, Peckham Road, is the South London Gallery, current exhibition; Michael Landy’s Art Bin. It was great timing for me, as my research paper covers some of Landy’s work, the Breakdown Inventory (2001). So, I went in and said hello to the man.

Visual Voices Lecture Series (Posters)

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Along with Joana and Nina I am organising a lecture series at Camberwell. So far Jonathan Barnbrook and Brave New Alps have been our guests. Vaughan Oliver will visit on the 10th March and Metahaven on the 17th (both 3pm in Wilson Road Lecture Theatre).

There are two sets of posters to advertise the talks, which, in our slightly complicated way are rather different. The digital versions that Joana came up with look like this:
