While waiting for my prints from Service Point, I decided to have a look at Less and More, Dieter Rams at the Design Museum. Wonderfully restrained work, and a great exhibition design by Bibliothèque. See their post about it on the Eye Blog.
One of his principles for good design is “Good design is as little design as possible.”
Which makes sense, restraint, simplicity, clarity. But then, on leaving the museum, I couldn’t admiring the distinctly unrestrained mural outside.
Here are Dieter’s ten principles of good design, just for good measure:
Good design is innovative.
Good design makes a product useful.
Good design is aesthetic.
Good design makes a product understandable.
Good design is unobtrusive.
Good design is honest.
Good design is long-lasting.
Good design is thorough down to the last detail.
Good design is environmentally friendly.
Good design is as little design as possible.
