Everyone knows that there’s nothing new under the sun, and obviously mobiles aren’t a new idea, Calder and Munari thoroughly explored the possibilities years ago. However it’s a bit of a funny feeling to stumble across something more contemporary, James Goggin made some rather recently, May 2004.

Ideas Are in the Air
Friday, October 30th, 2009Sempre Bom
Thursday, October 29th, 2009I spotted this as the side of the road in Portugal this summer. At the time I thought it would be relevant to this study because I’m interested in using the processes of drawing in graphic design, hand made typography and graphic design in the built environment. This is about the most simple possible way of doing that, picking up some pots of paint and getting on with it, and it’s a great result.
Bold Tendencies III
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009A sculpture exhibition on the top two floors of a multi-storey carpark in Peckham, with it’s own bar. This show would have been worth visiting just for the view, of for a place to have a cold drink on a hot day, or to steal some ideas for curation in general.
If the fool would but persist in his folly
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009“Walk on I’ve learned. I let my pen and the Die do what my mind boggles at doing. The falling Die and moving pen think for themselves and the interposition of ego, artistic conscience, style or organisaton usually weighs things down. Harvest Moon, Hatful of Worms
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009Hatchet face, hatchet job, hatchet man, hit-man, hatchway, hate. A page from a dictionary of slang provided the text for this letterpress print.
Everybody thinks I am high
Friday, October 16th, 2009First attempt at making my dynamic typography mobiles. While I was making these I realised a few things; nylon thread is much better that normal thread, when you have a roll of wire there’s no way to make it straight, my fingers are too big for the tiny knots I need to make, it feels good having a brand new pair of pliers.
Dimensional Typography on Eye Blog
Thursday, October 15th, 2009This article on the Eye Blog seems quite relevant to my study.

Destruction and Creation
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009I put this in for Niki de Saint Phalle’s shooting paintings, but her and Jean Tinguely detonating art bombs in the desert makes the same point. The idea that to make something new you can destroy something else.
